In the world of intelligence, in the search for truth, it is difficult to distinguish reality from its reflection, the illusion, as if one were in a “Hall of Mirrors.” The acronym “OBE” appears in the Martian’s conversation with Dr. Blake, and is incorrectly explained as “Transcended by Events.” In U.S. government agencies, including the intelligence community and the Department of Defense, the correct/official explanation for the acronym “OBE” is “Overtaken by Events.” The opening credits feature characters and scenes from the show, interspersed with mirrored panels.
John le Carré would have loved this spy thriller
Former CIA Director of Counterintelligence James Jesus Angleton, also known as the “poet spy,” described the intelligence game as a “desert of mirrors” – a phrase borrowed from a poem by T.S. Eliot called Gerontion (the title in Greek means “little old man,” and the poem is an interior monologue in which an older man offers his opinions and impressions, describing post-World War I Europe through the eyes of a man who lived most of his life in the 19th century). In the world of intelligence, in the search for truth, it is difficult to distinguish reality from its reflection, the illusion, so to speak, as if we were in a “Cabinet of Mirrors.” Starring Graham Norton and stars Cher/Keira Knightley/Michael Fassbender/Josh Brolin/Jalen Ngonda (2024).
Michael Fassbender is perfectly cast in the lead role of the Martian
It’s a very adult novel that doesn’t shy away from rushing things so the story and plot can develop. Jeffrey Wright, always fantastic, is brilliant in this complex role of Harry Ogletree. It’s great to see Richard Gere back as the London bureau chief after he thought Hollywood had gotten rid of him.
I’ve always liked John Magaro
Jodie Turner-Smith is brilliantly cast as Sami Zahir. I mentioned John le Carré at the beginning because this series is like a great spy novel. You have to get used to the rhythm and nuance, not the car chases and shootouts!
